When you sign up to import your car
with us, you will be sent a Welcome Pack in the post outlining the
entire process, a sample of our Welcome Pack is given to you below:
"Thank you for
choosing ShipMyCar to handle the import of your vehicle into the UK. Our
aim is to make the experience as hassle free for yourself and to ensure
your vehicle arrives in the UK safely and is ready to drive as soon as
possible.
We are the UK's
leading independent importer of American cars to the UK so you are in
safe and experienced hands.
Before the import
can begin there are a few things that we will be asking you to do for
us.
-
Please complete
our application form and let us have the requested details as soon
as possible. This enables us to book your vehicle in at the US port.
-
We do not hold
any liability for personal items shipped within the vehicle that
have not been separately booked in and accounted for so please
ensure all valuables are removed from your vehicle
We
will now require you to wait a couple of days until we have the US port
booking reference. Once we have given you this reference number you can
then continue with the following:
-
Please ensure
that the vehicles original title or Certificate of Origin
(if it is a brand new car) is posted to our agents
-
We will also require a copy of your passport
and a copy of the bill of sale from when you purchased the vehicle
to be emailed to our office (info@shipmycar.co.uk)
or to our fax 01908 810242.
-
If your vehicle
has HID headlights or rear LED lights for brakes / indicators please
inform us now as this may incur extra SVA costs to you
That's then all we
need in order to start the importation of your vehicle - you can now
sit back and relax and let us handle the rest.
Our US transport
team will contact the person at the vehicle collection address prior to
collecting the vehicle. If you have any special collection requirements
please be sure to let us know these details now.
Your vehicle is
fully insured at every step of the importation process - the insurance
valuation will cover not only bumps and minor damage but also for full
vehicle loss (for example if the ship was to sink) so it is vital that
you insure your vehicle for the correct amount. If you would like us to
raise the amount we insure the vehicle for please contact us now.
We will contact you
at various stages throughout the import. If the import is likely to be
delayed from our estimated delivery schedule we will contact you to let
you know. We deal with a large volume of vehicle imports so please
ensure you quote your ShipMyCar reference number with all
correspondence.
Prior to UK arrival
we will contact you to arrange customs clearance. We will require you to
complete and sign a customs document, if there are any customs duties to
pay we will inform you of these amounts and then require you to ensure
they are paid as soon as possible to avoid storage charges.
When applicable we
will also have pre-booked your SVA (Single Vehicle Approval) test. VOSA,
the organisation that runs these tests can get extremely busy which is
why we pre-book your test as early as possible.
For DVLA
registration we will require your original motor insurance
certificate or cover note which must show that you are insured to drive
the vehicle we are registering. We have close links with an excellent
insurance broker who can insure your vehicle on the Vehicle
Identification Number until we have a registration number from the DVLA.
It is very important that you do not insure the vehicle until we tell
you to do so as the policy may expire before the car is ready to be
registered.
If you have a
private number plate we will require the retention certificate which
will allow us to register the vehicle directly onto your private plate.
We can then arrange
delivery to your door – if this is of interest to you please call us to
arrange a quotation.
Your vehicle will be
fully valeted before you collect and will have everything required to
enable you to drive on UK roads.
We
hope that like many other customers before you, you will be 100% happy
with the service we provide. We pride ourselves on our customer service
and so if there is anything at all we can do to help please do contact
us."
